What do web editors use a Staff block for?

Staff blocks are the primary method of creating staff directories and listings for a given department webpage. They are an easy way to keep department contacts up to date.

Staff blocks can be used in the one column layout.

All Builders can edit Staff blocks. Super Builders can add Staff blocks to a page.

Step-by-step instructions

In your one-column section on the webpage, click "Add custom block."

  1. Select "Staff" by clicking it.
  2. A modal will open with several fields.
  3. In the "title" field, type in "Staff block" so the layout builder has a quick title for the block.
  4. In the "body" field, give your block a heading. This will help with accessibility. Something like "Faculty and instructors" or "Staff" will work.
  5. In the "Staff" section of the dialogue box, there is a field to enter a name. Type in the given staff member's name, typing in their family name first, then their first name. This will prompt the system to search for staff entries that match keywords you have typed in.
  6. From the dropdown selection of names, select the individual that you would like to the Staff block.
  7. To add more staff, click on the "Add another item" button. This will automatically create another name field. 
  8. Repeat steps 5-7 as many times as you need for however many staff you need to add.
  9. Choose how many columns you want the staff profiles to be displayed over. We recommend a minimum of 2 columns to keep the profiles to a reasonable size. If you have staff who don't have photos, then using 3 columns is acceptable.
  10. Click the "Add block" button.
  11. Scroll up to the top of the page and choose "Save layout."

To delete names from a Staff block, follow these steps:

  1. In layout mode, hover over the top right corner of the Staff block. When you see the pencil, click on that circle icon, and select "Configure."
  2. In the modal, scroll down to the list of staff names. Click into the field of the staff member's name you need to remove. Highlight their name, and press delete/backspace on your keyboard.
  3. Click the "update" button

To re-order names in the Staff block, follow these steps:

  1. In layout mode, hover over the top right corner of the Staff block. When you see the pencil, click on that circle icon, and select "Configure."
  2. In the modal, scroll down to the list of staff names.
  3. On the left-hand side of the names, there is a little Move icon with arrows on it. Click on the arrow icon, and drag the staff name up or down the list until they are in the appropriate spot. 
  4. Click the "update" button
