Department of Civil Engineering Technology

Civil Engineering students use surveying equipment in the field as part of classwork.

Civil Engineering faculty teach various courses so students are involved in the design and construction of buildings, bridges, highways, streets, parks, subdivisions, dams, drainage and irrigation systems, water supply and sewer systems, and plants. Aspects of civil engineering and urbanization in Canada are studied throughout this program. A diverse and stimulating program, Civil Engineering Technology incorporates field trips to reinforce theoretical background and develop appropriate methods of approaches and solutions.

Diploma program

The Civil Engineering Technology Diploma program is nationally accredited by Technology Accreditation Canada, allowing students to register as Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of B.C.

Courses

Courses in Civil Engineering cover aspects of civil engineering and urbanization in Canada, and field trips are incorporated to reinforce theoretical background and develop appropriate methods of problem solving.

I enjoy helping guide our students through the course materials and helping to prepare them for their careers. Most of my work experience is in structural engineering consulting; however, I also have experience with other areas of civil engineering, and in a research environment, as part of a team. I take professional responsibility for full building structural designs and construction, as well as for components and reports, completed by myself, or under my direct supervision. Being a graduate of 91̽»¨'s Civil Engineering Technology program, I look forward to seeing what our grads will do in their careers.

As a proud graduate of both the Residential Construction (Carpentry) Foundation and Civil Engineering Technology programs at 91̽»¨, I am very gracious to share my knowledge and experience to assist students embarking on their careers.

I began my career journey as Residential Framing Technician (Carpenter Apprentice) involved in constructing and renovating small buildings and houses. After returning to school, I transitioned into a Technologist role, working for private structural engineering firms, in the Okanagan and the Shuswap regions. In these positions, I was involved in structural design, drafting, field reviews and other related responsibilities.

My found passion for applied science drives my commitment to hard work, empathy, and respect for people and our environment. Teaching has deepened this passion, as I strive to inspire my students to embrace and embody these values.

In my ongoing professional and course development, I concentrate on the private industry, exploring new and current applications that enhance my teaching and benefit my students.
