In a timed competition, teams are presented with a business case that typically involves real-world scenarios involving a decision, challenge, opportunity, or problem faced by an individual or organization. In these competitions, students often take on the roles of decision-makers simulating the responsibilities of those facing the business challenge.
The School of Business participates in several core case competitions annually. Led by 91̽»¨ coaches, students compete on a coach-assembled team as a representative of the 91̽»¨ School of Business.

Get Involved! Core Competitions
CFA Institute Research Challenge
: An annual global competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis and professional ethics. Each student will be tested on their analytical, valuation, report writing, and presentation skills. Students gain real-world experience as they assume the role of a research analyst.

CPABC Case Competition
: Demonstrate and develop your business acumen by challenging yourself and your teammates to create strategic, innovative solutions to real issues facing real businesses! The CPABC Annual Business Case Competition is a business strategy case competition with two competition rounds.

Business Valuation Challenge
: The BV Challenge is a case competition that simulates the role of a Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) handling business valuation and loss quantification issues. Students work in teams of 2-4 students to analyze the case and provide a presentation of their findings to a panel of CBV judges. During this process, students will develop their financial analysis, valuation, critical thinking and presentation skills. Winning teams are eligible for significant cash prizes in this competition.

Enactus
: Enactus 91̽»¨ is a student-run, non-profit organization that empowers value-driven students to develop leadership skills, build confidence, and create meaningful connections. Through social, environmental, and economic projects, we aim to make a positive impact on local communities.

HRC West
: CPHR BC & Yukon, along with our partners at CPHR Alberta, bring together teams of students from post-secondary business programs across Western Canada for a one-of-a-kind learning experience rolled into an action-packed weekend. Student teams are faced with a comprehensive business case that explores a pressing HR challenge identified by working CPHR’s.

Scotiabank Vanier College | National Marketing Case Competition
: Focused on marketing cases, this competition seeks to connect students focused on marketing with the business community.

Western Canadian Business Competition (WCBC)
Western Canadian Business Competition (WCBC): The WCBC is a comprehensive undergraduate business competition where students consolidate their knowledge and skills in teams to develop strategic solutions in a simulated business scenario. WCBC provides students with lasting experiences, enhancing their strategic proficiency and business aptitude while connecting them with other future business leaders.

The School of Business may also provide funding to provide support for students who seek to participate in approved external competitions organized by other schools and organizations. Students interested in forming a team to participate in an alternative competition should reach out to a Team Lead for further information.
